Vale Hay Loader
Our August special beer is Hayloader. Hay Loaders were first made in England by Wm. Fenemore in 1901 at the Hay Loader Works in Brill. This traditional craft brewed ale evokes memories of a bygone era. Pale malt with a touch of Crystal from Maris Otter combine with a blend of five dfferent hop varieties to create a superb rich golden 4.4% ABV harvest time ale.

Hadda's Summer Glory 4.0%
Easy drinking golden bitter. Pale malts and a
hint of crystal combine with Perle and Cascade
whole cone hops, producing an easy drinking
Golden Beer with a citrus hop aroma.
Henry's IPA 3.6%
Light, refreshing and sessionable. An aroma of
gentle malt with slight hoppiness combines with a
good balance of flavours on the palate, maltiness
gradually dominating. There is a long-lasting
after taste to match which eventually becomes
biscuity.
Thames Tickler 4%
A very pleasant session ale, easy to drink full
of subtle characters and light on the tongue,
with no dominating flavour.
High Pike ABV c4.2%
Deep amber colour and a full nutty malt character
are complemented by a complex hop bitterness
derived from a subtle blend of Kent Goldings,
Fuggles and Herzbrucker Hallertau copper hops
finished with aromatic Styrian Goldings.
Mad Dog 4.4%
A pale fruity thirst quenching beer. The use of
Wheat and Crystal malts gives a full and fruity
body to the beer. Hops are a blend of Fuggles,
Challenger and Goldings, added late to enhance
the aroma.
J.H.B. Jeffrey Hudson Bitter 3.8%
A golden beer whose aroma is dominated by hops
that give characteristic citrus notes. Hops and
fruit on the palate are balanced by malt and a
bitter base. Dry hoppy finish with soft fruit
flavours.
Hope & Glory 4.5%
This dark style bitter has a malty but not sweet
taste with the delicate hop flavours from East
Kent Goldings throughout.
Summer Breeze 4.2%
Featuring classic Challenger hop character and
best quality Maris Otter barley.
Shefford Bitter 3.8%
A pleasant and well hopped session beer. This
Beer is brewed using Pearl Pale & Crystal
Malt, Challenger, Golding and Fuggle Hops.
Bavarian Gold 4.2%
A light German style golden ale, brewed with a
combination of German and Czech hops.
Nelson's Delight 4.5%
A well hopped, yet mellow amber bitter. The
subtle aroma and flavour of dark rum adds
sweetness to this well balanced premium brew.
Sparta 4.3%
Refreshing pale bitter. Packed with hop flavours
and crisp bitterness.
Lacey's Best 4.2%
One of our newer beers, Copper in colour
Lacey’s Ale is made from Maris Otter and
Roasted malt with Challenger Hops giving this
popular beer a gentle sweet malty taste without
being too strong.
Battle Brew 5.0%
A reddish amber beer, with a strong hoppy aroma.
An initial bitterness which lingers into the
after taste. Full of hops. Target, Challenger
& Northdown hops. Dry hopped with Styrian
Organic 4.0%
Silver at Champion Beers of Gloucestershire 2008
A refreshing, golden organic ale with a delicate
apple aroma.
Best Bitter 3.5%
An easy drinking bitter with a fresh dry hoppy
flavour combined with a fruity aftertaste and
heady aroma.
Wallops Wood 4.0%
A light chestnut in colour which puts it into the
'brown beer' category. As far as flavour goes, it
tends rather more towards the malt than the hops,
though there is a pleasing hop taste right at the
finish. The aroma is light and pleasant.
Nixey's Mill 4.1%
A traditional malty English bitter
Festive Ale 3.9%
A light blonde ale with a blend of American and
British hops making a floral and spicy beer with
a hint of grapefruit. Well bittered with a clean
dry finish. A fantastically refreshing pint for
an Indian summer (we hope!).
Shoemaker 4.2%
A copper-coloured beer with an aroma of roasted
malt and a hint of passion fruit. The use of
English Marris Otter pale malt, crystal malt and
wheat malt produces a full-bodied, malty flavour
which is enhanced by the citrus notes of American
Cascade hops. The bitterness of English Target
hops fades with the maltiness to result in a dry,
nutty finish.
W&M Mild 3.7%
Dark mild.
Wylam Wit 5.0%
A wheat beer.
Cosmic 4.2%
Cosmic is an amber coloured beer based on a
combination of Halcyon Pale and Crystal wheat
malts. Goldings and Northdown hops provide a
rounded bitterness with a fruity character..
